What to expect in a full ridden bit fit consult?

On arrival I will need a shaded dry area to set up my tables and numerous kits. (It can take 30mins to set up and packing and cleaning up approx. 45mins.)

Your horse will have an oral cavity examination, palpation of areas that are involved in the action and placement of a bit. External facial palpation and examination. Sizing and once a bit is found a brand size determined. Notes taken and possibly some photos. General bit information discussed. You will ride your horse in a selection of bits (this may vary depending on what your horse can tolerate. Green Horse, bit aversive, or history of any trauma may limit the pressure we can put on an individual during the session. Horses will stop giving feedback and shut down if too many bits are used.) If your horse has evasion behaviour you may also ride in your current bit so I can see what is happening.

Once the session is finished, I will clean the bits used and pack up. Payment via Cash or Direct Deposit will be done before I depart. Notes on our session will be done once I get time and links to any bits your horse went best in will be included so you can purchase those bits online or in a saddlery that stock that bit.

Other information :

I have an extensive range of English discipline bits (Dressage, Showjumping, Pony Club. I don’t do Western or Driving bits and only have a small number of Weymouths at present. If you already ride in a Double Bridle then I can offer trialling different Weymouths from my current selection.)

*If an all-weather arena isn’t available, then any poor weather may cause the consult to be postponed about 48hrs before.

What Certification do I have?

Bit Bank Australia Accredited Bit Fitter.

Horse Bit Fit Academy (LANTRA UK) Intro Bit and Bridle Fitting Course-Distinction grade which qualified me to do the Advance Bridle and Bit Consultant Course-High Distinction grading. (Over two years.)

I continue to do other courses as I find interesting additions to my knowledge. Below are but a few of those I have completed.

Local Services

Full Ridden Bit Fit ; Mid North Coast ( Nabiac to Coffs Harbour, approx. an hour’s drive from Kundabung.) Max of 3 horses per booking. Consultation takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Time really depends on the horse, their history around bits, their level of education, the temperature on the day as we will work to the conditions and their emotional state on the day. Cost $150.00 per horse.

Mouth Measure and Brand Sizing : Horses mouth is measured. Three popular brand bits will be sized on the day for your future reference as Brands all run bigger or smaller in there manufacturing process. $75.00 per horse.

Bridle Fit : Examination of horse’s head anatomy, current bridle checked (recommendations discussed) and fitting of a recommended “Custom Build Bridle Brand COMING SOON

Out of Area Services

Full Riden Bit Fit: Up to 3.5 hrs travel. Lower Hunter, Nth of Coffs Harbour, Central Coast and Newcastle areas. Travel charge is added. Two horses ( Max. 3 due to travel time ) at ONE Venue needed to organise a day. (you can find a friend to join you so you can book a day). Sessions are 1.5 to 2 plus hours per horse depending on the case. $170.00 to $190.00 per horse depending on travel time. (email/ contact below for final quote.)

Group- Mouth Measure and Brand Sizing: Total of 6 horses for an out of area day required. $90.00 each including travel. Three popular brand bits will be sized on the day for your future reference as Brands all run bigger or smaller in there manufacturing process.

Bit Trial: For previous Full Ridden bit fit clients. Need to try Jumping bits or a few different Weymouths for example. (By arrangement when I am in your area at some stage that suits my travel plans.) $120.00.

Rein Gauge Sessions: These can be run within a lesson or booked as a session while training at home. This will give you an idea of how much rein pressure you use, if it is too strong or weak and the difference between your hands so you can work on changing your muscle memory to the better and more consistent. $60.00 locally.
